Northend United U14s played Ballymoney YA in a SBYL League match at Smithfield on Monday night. This Northend team are really buzzing at present and again played some excellent football and Brendan Lynas gave them the lead early on when he beat the Ballymoney keeper with a low shot on four minutes.
With Northend attacking Ballymoney at every opportunity, Declan McAfee was next to score on fifteen minutes to make the score 2-0 to Northend. Northend could have increased their lead even further but some excellent saves from the Ballymoney keeper, who was having a good game.
Northend conceded a free kick on the edge of their area just before half time and from the resultant kick, Ballymoney pulled a goal back to make the half time score 2-1 to Northend.

Northend came out for the second half in a determined mood and again took the game to Ballymoney. Sean McCann and Mark Robinson were having good games for Northend in midfield. Emmet Kerr increased their lead when he scored a bullet header from an inswinging corner.

Northend United U14s played Red Star in a SBYL League match at the Boucher Road Pitches. Northend reserved some of their best football of the season for this match and Ryan McIllroy gave them the lead early on when he beat the Red Star keeper with a low shot on five minutes.
With Northend exerting the pressure, Emmet Kerr was next to score when he headed home from a corner kick on nine minutes.
However Northend took their foot off the pedal and allowed Red Star to pull a goal back to make the score 2-1.

Northend again took the game to Red Star and the midfield of Declan McAfee, Sean McCann, Mark Robinson and Conan Dunne began to dictate play. From a low drive from Ryan McIllroy into the Red Star box, a defender turned the ball into his own net to give Northend a 3-1 lead.
It was all Northend now and Brendan Lynas was next to score when he beat the Red Star keeper with a low drive to give Northend a 4-1 lead with minutes of the first half remaining.
However some sloppy play in defence, allowed Red Star to pull a goal back right on the stroke of half time to leave the score 4-2 in Northend's favour.

With renewed confidence, Red Star started off the second half strongly and pulled another goal back on ten minutes to make the score 4-3 to Northend.
With Red Star beginning to dominate the game at this stage, the Northend defence of Thomas Brady, Emmet Kerr and Ryan Douds and Dylan Little in the Northend net dealt confidently with whatever Red Star threw at them.
Northend weathered this storm and with ten minutes of the game remaining a superb through ball from Sean McCann left Ryan McIllroy with space to beat the Red Star keeper and restore a two goal cushion to Northend and make the score 5-3 to Northend.
Right on the stroke of full time Red Star pulled another goal back but it wasn't enough as Northend United ran out 5-4 eventual winners
